Last Sunday I had the privilege of taking notes from a visiting pastor at our church, Marcos Witt, who had a great message on how to have a turnaround breakthrough in your life.
Now many of you might be searching for a career change or transition, and the good news is when you “invite Jesus to the party” things can shift in your life.
Marcos used the example of the story in the Bible where Jesus turned the water into wine. If you’re not familiar with this one here’s a passage from Biblegateway:
John 2:1-11 New King James Version (NKJV)
Water Turned to Wine
2 On the third day there was a wedding in Cana of Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. 2 Now both Jesus and His disciples were invited to the wedding. 3 And when they ran out of wine, the mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no wine.”
4 Jesus said to her, “Woman, what does your concern have to do with Me? My hour has not yet come.”
5 His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it.”
6 Now there were set there six waterpots of stone, according to the manner of purification of the Jews, containing twenty or thirty gallons apiece. 7 Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. 8 And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. 9 When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom. 10 And he said to him, “Every man at the beginning sets out the good wine, and when the guests have well drunk, then the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!”
11 This beginning of signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.
The first point about this story that Marcos pointed out was that Jesus’s first miracle was a happy one! If you feel called by God to launch into a new phase in your life such as starting a business, working from home, or going back to school to begin a new profession, there are several key factors that will empower you to succeed.
Marcos shared four things that happened in Jesus’s miracle with some of my notes added as well:
1 – Invite Jesus to the party
There’s a miracle in the waiting just for you. Invite Jesus into your family, your business, and your relationships. Every chance you get pray and be a witness to others for Christ. When people recognize that you are a believer just by knowing you then that speaks volumes to them about the character of God.
2 – Give Him something to work with
He’s the God who takes the little things and turns it into big things. As Marcos said, “He turns the little into big!” Don’t be in despair if you are not where you want to be right now. There’s still a plan in the works for your life, and all of the steps you have taken so far are leading up to the destiny that God has for you. Nothing is wasted, and everything counts towards that plan.
3 – Cooperate with Him
Follow God’s lead – let go. He will determine what steps to take. Don’t put your requirements on the miracle. Only God knows your future and when we put our complete trust in Him He leads us day by day. We might take a mis-step here and there, but He is faithful and directs our steps as we let go of the steering wheel and allow the creator of the universe to drive our lives.
4 – Do the work
The stone jars in the days that Jesus walked the earth were not easy to fill with water. It took strength and perseverance to obey the Lord’s instructions. Be willing to stay in faith. Keep walking. Keep trusting. Press in with the Word, and through worshipping, praying, interceding. Stay planted in the church that God has called you to and serve. It’s then that you’ll see God turning things around for your good. Do this even when you don’t feel like it!
I hope this teaching has helped instill more hope into your dreams and goals for the future. It’s not always easy to step out in faith and take steps to move into what God has called us to do, but with His help and having Him at our party we can “do all things through Christ who strengthens us.”
